It''s Mother''s Day tomorrow. So, are sons and daughters everywhere getting ready to make it special for their mums? Model and former Femina Miss India Sarah Corner says, "I celebrate my parents'' existence everyday."
Her mum and theatre person Priscilla Corner agrees that "Any one day doesn''t have to be designated for such celebrations."
But model and ad professional Kavya Peerbhoy remembers how long letters used to be a Mother''s Day tradition when she lived away from home.
"When I was abroad, studying and working, I used to write long letters to my mother, Sadiqa, which I feel is more personal than a card. These days I take her out to dinner which is more special than buying presents."
Mother''s Day gestures are not limited to cards, flowers and gifts. Grasim Mr India Raghu Mukherjee helps his mother Ratna with the domestic chores and cooks for her. "Personally I feel I should give her a break from the routine. Not that I wait for Mother''s Day to do it though."
There are many who make coffee and rustle up breakfast for mum.Rohit Beliappa, a student of RV College says, "This year I am planning to cook a meal for my mother for the first time."
According to Tapati Ghosh, a retired teacher and mother of 19-year-old college student Abhimanyu and Anandita, though Mother''s Day doesn''t have the same prominence as birthdays and anniversaries, it''s a day for showing care. "Being a mother it feels nice when children pay special attention to me," she says.
Seema Sirajuddin thinks it''s a great idea to celebrate Mother''s Day. "It is a day for showing you appreciate all that your mother does for you," she says. She gives her mother Sabiha chocolates and cards. "It''s a special day for me as well," she says.
For 18-year-old Rachna Ponnappa, who is appearing for her CET exams, all days are mother''s days. "My mum, Dharani, who works as a nursing home administrator, means the world to me. Of course, my brother and I give her flowers. And our mother gives us gifts on the day."
For Jyoti Nivas College student Rachita Parameswaran, Mother''s Day is for bonding. "I take my mother, Usha, out forlunch, give her flowers and make her feel great. I feel this is one day when everyone has to appreciate their mother''s love and show their concern for her," she says.
